Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Hamdi Zakzouk
We owe the Egyptian Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Hamdi Zakzouk, a great debt for the goodwill and absolute trust he has shown us from the very beginning.
Without him we would never have been able to hold the key conversations with His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and with His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ali Gom’a, the Grand Mufti of Egypt. These conversations in turn led to the Conference of Scholars in November 2006 in Cairo and brought us and the most eminent leaders of Islam a decisive step forward on the road to ending the practice of female genital mutilation. We hold the trust placed in us in the highest esteem.
